Sunday After the Exaltation of the Cross
September 17
Chrysostom on Mark 8:34-9:1
The Life-giving Cross itself will give us water flowing from the rock which is Christ our true God; it will extinguish the flames of temptation; it will sweeten and calm our souls and bodies more than honey and oil; it will quench our thirst so that we thirst no more.
Blessed Theophylact on Mark 8:34-9:1
For the Lord is saying: I compel no one. I invite him to something good, not to something bad to which I must compel him. Whoever does not want these things is not worthy of them.
From Blessed Theophylact, The Explanation of the Holy Gospel According to Mark, Chrysostom Press, 2007
Galatians 2:16-20
And I live, now not I; but Christ liveth in me.

Seventeenth Sunday After Pentecost, September 24:
Chrysostom on “the love of God”
For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments: and his commandments are not grievous. For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world….Love is the beginning and end of the virtues. All the commandments are fulfilled by the one commandment of love, because love leads to turning away from evil and doing good.
Blessed Theophylact on Luke 5:1-11
The net is the Gospel; like the fisherman’s net, which is a lowly and commonplace thing, the Gospel is composed of humble, everyday words which reach down and condescend to the simplicity of the people.
From Blessed Theophylact, The Explanation of the Holy Gospel According to Luke, Chrysostom Press, 2007
2 Corinthians 6:16-7:1
