The clergy of the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of St. Josaphat in Parma had their annual retreat on October 30 – November 2, 2023 at the Bethany Center of the Roman Catholic Diocese of St. Petersburg in Lutz, Florida.

This year’s retreat was led by the Very Rev. Fr. Andrew Onuferko, Protosyncellus (i.e., Vicar General) of the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of Toronto and Eastern Canada and was centered on the theme of the fruit of the Holy Spirit as found in Holy Apostle Paul’s Letter to the Galatians 5:22-23: “the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control” (NRSVCE). At the beginning of the retreat, Father Andrew accentuated that there are “two important participants in this retreat: the Holy Spirit and you,” i.e., each participant. The Holy Spirit is the Retreat Master and the priest preaching the retreat is only the facilitator. While discussing each of the fruit of the Spirit as mentioned by St. Paul at length, Fr. Andrew placed a special emphasis on love as stemming from God Himself, Who is love, as the Holy Apostle and Evangelist John writes in his First Letter (see 4:8). The retreat master stated that we, Christians, called to be “the icons of God’s love in the world” and likewise talked about the “healing power of love,” “love as medicine” as well as about the importance of being “a sign of God’s love for others.” “God is still at work today,” emphasized Father Andrew, and “where there is love, the Holy Spirit truly is at work.” The retreat participants also had an opportunity to share the experience of love in their own lives.

Besides the eparchial priests, the days of recollection had been attended by Bishop Bohdan Danylo of the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of St. Josaphat in Parma, Bishop Paul Chomnycky of the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of Stamford, and a newly ordained deacon, Bohdan Nasypanyi from the Pokrova Ukrainian Catholic Church in Parma, OH.

In addition to the conferences, the retreat participants also took part in the celebrations of the Divine Liturgy and other liturgical services in English and Ukrainian as well as had an opportunity for confession and spiritual talks.

В Єпархії святого Йосафата в Пармі УГКЦ відбулися реколекції для духовенства

З 30-го жовтня по 2-ге листопада 2023 року в реколекційному «Центрі Витанія» римо-католицької дієцезії Санкт Петербурга в м. Луц, штат Флорида, відбулися щорічні реколекції для духовенства Єпархії Святого Йосафата в Пармі УГКЦ.

Цьогорічні реколекції були проведені о. Андрієм Онуферком, Протосинкелом Єпархії Торонто та Східної Канади Української Греко-Католицької Церкви, і були зосереджені на темі плоду Святого Духа, що міститься в Посланні святого апостола Павла до Галатів 5,22-23: «А плід Духа: любов, радість, мир, довготерпіння, лагідність, доброта, вірність, тихість, здержливість» (переклад о. Івана Хоменка, 3-го ЧСВВ). На початку реколекцій отець Андрій наголосив, що в цих реколекціях є «два важливі учасники: Святий Дух і Ви», тобто кожен учасник. Святий Дух є Провідником реколекцій, а реколектант – лише фасилітатором. Обговорюючи кожний із плодів Духа згідно святого апостола Павла, о. Андрій особливо акцентував на любові, яка походить від Самого Бога, Який є любов’ю, як пише святий апостол і євангелист Іван у своєму Першому посланні (див. 4,8). Реколектант зазначив, що ми, християни, покликані бути «іконами Божої любові у світі», як рівно ж говорив про «цілющу силу любові», «любов як ліки» як також про важливість бути «знаком Божої любові до інших». «Бог діє і сьогодні, – підкреслив о. Андрій, – а там, де є любов, там справді діє Святий Дух». Учасники реколекцій також мали можливість поділитися досвідом любові у власному житті.

Окрім єпархіальних священників, в реколекціях рівно ж взяли участь владика Богдан Данило з Єпархії Святого Йосафата в Пармі УГКЦ, владика Павло Хомницький зі Стемфордської Єпархії УГКЦ та нововисвячений диякон Богдан Насипаний з Церкви Покрова Пресвятої Богородиці УГКЦ м. Парми, штат Огайо.

В додаток до конференцій, учасники реколекцій також взяли участь у Божественних Літургіях та інших богослужіннях, які були проведені англійською та українською мовами, як також мали можливість для сповіді та духовних розмов.
