Alive in Christ
A Weekly Reflection on Faith, Prayer, and Life from Christ Our Pascha
Week 5
A Faith Received and Shared
The Holy Spirit helps the Church receive Christ and share his life across generations.

The people who helped us pray
Many of us first met the faith through someone who made time for us. A parent taught a prayer, a priest listened, or a neighbor offered a ride to church.
Some readers may be the first in their families to become Catholic. A parish can offer the friendship and guidance that help faith take root.
We receive something precious through the words and faithful care of other people. Yet the gift they share is greater than a family’s habits or memories.
The Church hands on the life and teaching she has received from Christ. The Holy Spirit keeps her faithful as she shares this gift across generations.
The catechism describes the heart of this living Tradition in these words:
From Christ Our Pascha
“The essence of Tradition consists in faithfully following Christ within the Church for all generations, until the end of time.”
From Christ Our Pascha, paragraph 34, printed page 21.
A living faith to receive
Holy Tradition means more than keeping a custom because it feels familiar. It is the Holy Spirit’s work of handing on Christ’s truth and life within the Church.
The catechism traces this gift through the apostles, the Church’s teachers, and her worship. The apostles shared what they had received through preaching, writing, and the witness of their lives.
The Church continues their mission as she proclaims the Gospel and celebrates the Holy Mysteries. In these sacraments, Christ gives us a share in his own life.
The faith we receive invites our own response of trust and love. We learn its prayers and teaching so we can follow Christ more faithfully today.
Scripture and Tradition belong together
The Bible holds the word of God in written form through the Holy Spirit’s work. Holy Tradition hands on that word within the continuing life of the Church.
The catechism teaches us to receive both with faith and respect. Within the Church, we hear the Scriptures, learn their meaning, and seek to live by them.
We may need help when a passage seems strange or difficult at first. Asking a priest or trained catechist can be part of receiving the faith with care.
Our questions need not keep us from joining the Church’s life of prayer. We can listen, learn, and return with a heart willing to be guided.
Sharing what we have received
The catechism gives us another brief phrase that brings this teaching close:
From Christ Our Pascha
“Faithfulness to Tradition is faithfulness to new life in Christ”
From Christ Our Pascha, paragraph 35, printed page 21. This is a short excerpt.
Imagine an older parishioner helping someone new find the right place in a prayer book. There is no need for a speech or a test of what the visitor knows.
A kind welcome and patient help can make it easier to join the prayer. The teaching still matters, and care helps another person approach it without fear.
At home, we may share a prayer before a meal or read a short Gospel passage. We can also admit when we need to learn more and seek the Church’s guidance together.
We do not need to know everything before we offer a faithful welcome. We do need humility, patience, and a wish to share Christ’s love with care.
Hold on to this
The Church receives her faith from Christ and hands it on through the Holy Spirit.
Scripture and Holy Tradition belong together within her life of prayer and teaching.
We share this gift through faithful words, patient help, and a welcoming heart.
Take a quiet moment
Remember someone whose prayer or kindness helped you come closer to Christ. Thank God for that person and for the gift you received through them.
If you are new to the faith, bring your wish to belong before him. Ask for help in finding wise guidance and friendship within your parish.
A small beginning this week
Offer someone a simple way to share in the prayer of the Church. You might invite them to attend with you or help them follow a service.
Give the invitation kindly, with room for the other person to respond freely. Let your care make clear that they are welcome to ask and learn.
Let Us Pray
Lord Jesus Christ, thank you for those who have shared your faith with us. Keep us close to your Church and faithful to the truth you give. Through your Holy Spirit, help us receive, live, and share your love. Give us patient hearts and gentle words for those learning to follow you. Amen.
