Second Sunday of Lent, Commemoration of Saint Gregory Palamas

March 5

Chrysostom on Mark 2:1-12

Sin brings many and great evils and does much harm to the soul. Often, when sin has increased exceedingly, its evil affects the body also, for often, when the soul is in a bad state, many of us lose our senses….

Let us entreat Him to heal and make strong our palsied souls and bodies, to remedy our senses, to rouse us up for deeds of virtue, to confirm us in leading a life according to the Gospel, and to make firm our steps.

From John Chrysostom, The Gospel Commentary, translated from Slavonic into English by Abbot German Ciuba (Church of the Nativity of Christ, Old Rite, Erie, Pa.)
