On April 6, 2023, the Ukrainian Catholic faithful and clergy of Saint Josaphat Ukrainian Catholic eparchy gathered together at the Cathedral of Saint Josaphat in Parma, OH for the Holy Thursday Liturgy. The Holy Thursday Liturgy is one of the most significant events in the Christian calendar, as it commemorates the Last Supper of Jesus Christ with his disciples and the institution of the Holy Eucharist.
The divine liturgy with vespers started at 10:30 am at St. Josaphat Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral. Parishioners and clergy from other parishes in Ohio and Pennsylvania were able to attend. The Holy Thursday Liturgy is a time of reflection, prayer, and contemplation for the faithful. It is a time to remember the sacrifice of Jesus Christ and the importance of the Holy Eucharist.
During the homily, Bishop Bohdan J Danylo spoke about gratitude for the service of the clergy. He highlighted the uncertainty about the future, just as the apostles, who participated in the Last Supper with Jesus Christ, were not aware that only a day later their teacher and friend would be crucified. Bishop Bohdan thanked all the clergy for caring for the Christian community and family, and for extending their hands to those who are less fortunate. He encouraged the clergy to be the hand of Christ to those who need it the most.
The Holy Thursday Liturgy is an important time for the Ukrainian Catholic community to come together to reflect on the sacrifice of Jesus Christ and the importance of the Holy Eucharist.
