A commemorative prayer vigil marking the two-year anniversary of the conflict in Ukraine is scheduled for February 24 at 6 p.m. at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, located in the heart of Cleveland.

The event will see the convergence of local Ukrainian and orthodox congregations, with clergy including those from the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of St. Josaphat in Parma.

Attendees can expect a spiritual evening filled with musical performances, prayerful meditations, and a sermon by Bishop Edward Malesic. Joining him will be Bishop Bohdan Danylo from the Eparchy of St. Josaphat.

The vigil’s program is set to honor those affected by the war—soldiers, civilians, displaced individuals, refugees, and families who have lost loved ones. An ecumenical prayer dedicated to peace will highlight the service.

Organized by the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland in collaboration with the Ukrainian community of Greater Cleveland, the event is open to all. It will also be accessible via live stream on the diocesan website.

This event follows a previous major prayer vigil held by the diocese in response to the Russian invasion, which took place on March 6, 2022, and was attended by Bishop Malesic and Father Volodymyr Hrytsyuk, rector of St. Josaphat Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral in Parma, along with a large congregation.
